Usefulness of formalization in sociology

Formal arguments are usually lateral, not always move things substantially and, in general, are more difficult to make the arguments (and statements) informal normally do in Sociología.Pero have a great advantage, which I think is crucial. Avoid this kind of thing:

During utilitarianism and criticize these approaches attempts to explain altruism, Hans Joas and Wolfgang Kobla in 'Social Theory. Twenty Introductory Lectures' say the following regarding altruism in biology

The answer theses scholares That Came up in almos identical WAS structured way, in That They Believe it possible to affirm That always Aries Such altruistic Behavior Increases Where It married in the 'reproductive fitness' of the species, at least in the long term. Once again, altruism Was' Elegantly Trac genetic back to egotism. None of this is terribly persuasive '(page 105)

Now, as part of the differences is that biologists formalized the argument in a model, it is completely irrelevant if someone seems "terribly persuasive." The argument works and is well constructed (and in general, the terms are relatively well defined so it is not necessary to reproductive fitness in quotation marks), and obtain results in the conclusion. If I criticize something I have to do more than simply saying 'none of this is terribly persuasive 'need to prove that the argument does not work (ie that their premises are wrong, that the connections are not sufficiently well done) or empirically show that it is not the case (well, it happens that on such and such species ...) .

But, of course, that means real work to develop theory and not just stay in the 'I think ...'.

Methodology Paper on Paper on Independent Workers

And when, at the same time, made a presentation at the same conference on methodology (based but modify, the ideas expressed in the series about the rules of sociological analysis), also do the same. In other words, publish:

http://sociologicalmeditations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/las_reglas_del_analisis_sociologico.pdf

And here's the summary:

The methodology in the social sciences often operate in a vacuum, separate from the rest of the discipline. This poses a problem for the development of social sciences. The methodology should be based on the knowledge of this discipline: Forms may be useful to investigate the social, on their characteristics.

This paper proposes some rules for sociological analysis. The first is that the actions of the actors make sense for them (but this does not work for actors construct trusses). The second is that there are no actors special, and their differences have been explained. The third is that all actions have consequences. The fourth is that the relevant question is about social life, and not just what society influence.

Pain On Lower Left Side During Ovulation

Having made a presentation on the status of independent workers to the Sixth Congress of Sociology, nothing more would not be posted on this blog.

Here is the address: http://sociologicalmeditations.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/trabajadores_independientes.pdf

And here's the summary:

contemporary work describes many sometimes unstable, and characterized by 'de-structuring' of the trajectories. The construction of future projects would then be more difficult. Freelancers, more unstable, are interesting segment on this issue.

the context of independent allows us to understand the basis on which might (or not) build a future. First, have a high diversity, and this in turn implies that not all are particularly precarious. Their business culture, value their autonomy (not the enterprise) and their resentment against the instability also affects their ability thinking about the future.

This implies a relationship with the future that does not follow the supposed tonic: A family's future (not individual), with expectation of continuous work (without retirement). Their perception of the future is based on the idea that if you sort and save, something that depends on them, can get a positive future.

So independents can plan ahead: There is uncertainty about whether comply with the rule, but not with the rule as such. Perceived instability, but no structural change. Build the future (individual and family) are based on the repetition of this (social).

And I discovered that I am Parsonian

Without ever having studied deeply actually Parsons.

In other entries in this blog (latest: Four coordination arrangements) had developed a few ideas of my theory, that one could divide the coordination in four groups according to whether one acted on interest / representations or alternative resources, and if you gave or removed to an alternative. The idea had occurred to me reading Coleman (on issues of control and resources) and trying to find ways to distinguish clearly, and elementary level of coordination among its various modalities (thinking that many theories tend to be unanimous on this point) .

Well, here's a few months later, re-reading the old text of Habermas's Theory of Communicative Action, I find the following (when said to Parsons)

If only allows a choice between positive and negative sanctions and left open only two channels of influence, the influence on the views and obligations of another or the influence on the situation of action, are four strategies or ways to give effect to such conditioning. Parsons mode of interaction calls and puts each one in relation to one of the means (Habermas, Theory of Communicative Action, Vol 2, page 396)

In short, without realizing it, had developed (and refined, I think) an argument of Parsons. In fact, the worst thing is another thing: This is an argument that Parsons in turn used to support and develop the idea of symbolically generalized media. And we all know who has been subsequently developed these ideas further. Yes, the evil of Luhmann. Thus, inadvertently, had already begun to enter into this horrible way.

RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY, Hamlet by William Shakespeare

Perhaps the most salient feature of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, is the contrast between two structural strands, a dramatic, or action, referred to the argument, and other essentially lyrical, or inaction, where they occupy a preferential place the soliloquies of Prince of Denmark. The first is external: it has to do with revenge tragedy. The locus of the background is the mind of Hamlet, the interior of the character, their thoughts, doubts, hesitations and delays. Hamlet is, first, a revenge tragedy with an air of enigma, mystery chronicle police and swashbuckling, and secondly, a study of reflexive skepticism that ends the Middle Ages and Renaissance Humanism begins.

RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY: The myth of the cave

PLATON

"" After that I continued - compare our nature for their education
their lack of education with an experience like this.
Represent men in an underground dwelling in a cave, which is the entry
open in its entirety in the light. It is from
children with legs and neck chains, so they must stay there and watch
just before them, because the chains prevent them from turning
around the head. Above and beyond is a fire l
light that shines behind them, and between the fire and the prisoners there is a wall built
side by side as the screen before the puppeteers
up for public display, above the screen, the puppets. "

RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY: The Art War by Sun Tzu

Art of War, The
Sun Tzu

The Art of War is a book written by a person of acute vision, not just the specific topic that is "surprising because extensive and thorough analysis," but for his understanding of human beings, both the enemy and of yourself and your reactions, the nature of reality and what- media to take action victorious by guile, knowledge and intelligence.
Its validity in today's world, transcending the mere military background, is that the pervasive wisdom of Sun Tzu on the resources to fight and win, you can apply to many aspects of life in the complex Western societies, and encourages a profound reflection on the modes of action.

Lady Libertine Full Online

the justification for all (Heiliger Dankgesang)

may not be the most decent of all feelings, but invariably when I hear the slow movement of Quartet in A Minor "Holy Song of Thanks-term thinking of Beethoven that, indeed, all the things that make human beings are justified only for someone to compose it. 1st part

2nd part

The full title of the movement is Holy Song of Thanksgiving for a Convalescent to the Deity. And although, pace Spandrell, Huxley's character, the movement does not prove the existence of God, if I think it would be worthwhile for there could get that appreciation. It is as if the appreciation event will create a God finally.

Mancha RECOMMENDATION OF THE DAY: Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics

Nicomachean Ethics Aristotle

The History Thought shows that men of all time have turned their eyes again and again to the Nicomachean Ethics where they found answers to your pressing questions about what life is worth living, what friendship, justice, goodness, truth and what virtues are necessary to live with others in society. The man is a living and lives. Their existence does not end in a live, but live fully in place, in being with others. In this living man displays his acting, and that is where ethics appears that judges, who studies human acts.
Actions that allow a dynamic relationship with others in living fully that humanizes, entitling it to realize the ideal of good life in society. Aristotle proposed ethics covering the entire spectrum of the act of man, but wrote three treatises on ethics, ethics was not a recipe for it in the style of the sophists, but an investigation of how the moral sense arises in man and how manifests. The birth is about the same man, is intrinsic to it, and its manifestation is the form of human life that is whole and is related to ethics, because man is a rational animal and communicative, someone who works and effort acquires, manufactures, the means necessary for subsistence. This ability to set the man as wearing a active existence, but free because it is master of his actions.

A Piece of Phantasmagoria

"You are to travel in dreams, is the world of Phantasmagoria. This is a story of that planet."

And speaking of Locomotion, many fans will recall a series in which each chapter on a small part of a small but beautiful planet called Phantasmagoria. A bakery made bread, a sea of green glass, a city of cactus, a forest of mushrooms, a liquor bottle shaped floating in the sea and many other things are what they remember most from dreams about Phantasmagoria. Stories

say children but wit until an adult keeps them entertained, and a soundtrack that while the Gymnopedies rifle Erik Satie, works perfect atmosphere for the relaxing atmosphere of the series.

Tropic of Cancer Henry Miller

"Tropic of Cancer" ("Tropic of Cancer") is a novel by American writer Henry Miller, published in Paris in 1934 . It was not published in the United States until 1961, it was banned by U.S. laws on obscenity and pornography. It is famous for his candid and graphic way to describe sex, and is considered one of the masterpieces of the twentieth century Anglo-Saxon literature.

The book consists of fifteen episodes in relative chronological order, with the text in first person as the only way continuity.

In one version of himself, but also fundamentally true distorted by the imagination of the novelist: the supposed narrator is the playwright himself. Its setting is Paris, more miserable than eccentric and bohemian, and where, often as much hardship, he lived between 1928 and 1940, minus two trips to New York. We focus on games and adventures in Paris, mingling with the stream of consciousness, his thoughts about life, people, jobs and the city plays around him.

Its sequel, Tropic of Capricorn was published in 1938.

Just so I can not forget. Dante, Beatrice, Ponto Vecchio and the 2nd World War Missa Solemnis

Vía Ionarts y Bookslut

Six hundred fifty years later, during World War II, the Americans were chasing the German army up the Italian "boot." The Germans were blowing up everything of aid to the progression of the American army, including the bridges across the Arno River. But no one wanted to blow up the Ponte Vecchio, because Beatrice had stood on it and Dante had written about her. So the German army made radio contact with the Americans and, in plain language, said they would leave the Ponte Vecchio intact if the Americans would promise not to use it. The promise was held. The bridge was not blown up, and not one American soldier or piece of equipment went across it. We're such hard That We Needed people bitten bitten hard proof of Things, and this is the MOST I know fact-bitten hard to present to you. The bridge WAS spare, in a modern, ruthless war, Because Beatrice Had Stood upon it
